Anniversary exhibition "Enlightenment of the World"

With some unique, original exhibits, the Anniversary Exhibition takes you from the Middle Ages to modern times with a special focus on the Enlightenment in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Motiv Jubiläumsausstellung

This period serves to illustrate the important role played by Leipzig and Central Germany in the history of education throughout the whole of Germany and Europe. From its founding in the late Middle Ages, Universität Leipzig helped to shape the history of science in Saxony, Germany and Europe. This is especially true of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

The themes covered by the exhibition range from astronomy to mining, botany and other life sciences, medicine and law through to art, music, theatre and literature. Original technical instruments, preparations, surgical tools, manuscripts, paintings and musical instruments, as well as theatre designs, shed light on the past while at the same time illustrating their importance for modern-day society.

Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday 10 am - 6 pm

The exhibition offers insights into the university's history, and displays selected treasures from the university library. Visitors are invited to enjoy some of the rarest and most valuable objects scholars have ever dealt with.

The University of Leipzig has changed significantly during the past 600 years, but it has also remained much the same. Teaching and research, learning and understanding, continue to form the daily routine. This exhibition illustrates - by means of exclusive and very rare objects from the rich holdings of the university library - academic activities over several centuries. It is intended for the general public
